To open the new World Music Tavern, I'll start with a sacred piece from K'naan featuring Sade.

Mogadishu-born rapper K'naan is sometiomes called the dusty foot philosopher because of his deep thought and politically charged lyrics.

The sultry and poetic Sade (whose birth name is Helen Folasade Adu) was born in Ibadan, Nigeria to a British mother and a Nigerian father.

In this tune, called "My Mother's Pearls," a shout out to struggling mothers, K'naan blends his Somali-tinged lyricism with Sade's brilliant classic "Woman in Somalia."
